The Style Counsel: Jay Birmingham on the Key SS18 Trends
Men are starting to have much more fun with fashion with creativity and originality being celebrated heavily at the moment. It’s great to see guys experimenting with style and see the interpretation of trends from a unique and individual perspective.
One trend that doesnt seem to be going anywhere though is Sports Luxe and Loungewear. With its roots in urban and sportswear its’ a trend still endorsed within celebrity circles with the likes of Kanye West and Brooklyn Beckham opting for the relaxed chic of jogging bottoms, plain t-shirts and bomber jackets . The trick is to keep the palette nuetral and the shape simple. In fact neutral tones are going to be big business within men’s fashion this season as clothing is moving away from bright, daring colours and leaning more towards pastel tones, stones, taupe, beige and greys.
Men’s grooming has boomed over the past couple of years with more focus on precise facial hair and clean cut hair lines than ever before. Trimmers and clippers are on everyone’s shopping list this
season as the trend for extremely long beards is definitely on the wane with the return of the stubble length beard which does require maintenance and commitment.
Fades are still widespread in men’s fashion although there has been an obvious shift in the style and finish of this popular look. A return in longer length can definitely be expected and this contrasted against the traditional fade is a look men love just now.
Keep hair light of product for a clean, weightless look and try with the hair pulled back off the face. Pair this style with a beard to accentuate the jawline and bone structure.
Pageboy inspired hair is also breaking into the limelight and is another looks that looks well with a slight, understated fade to keep things fresh. Fringes are making a comeback are a great way for guys to experiment without fully committing. The front of the hair can be styled downwards onto your face for a pageboy feel or it can be quiffed upward for a cleaner finish.
