Nottingham’s Best Cocktail Announced
Das Kino’s Hood’s Italian Wine has been named as Nottingham’s Best Cocktail in a competition organised by Nottingham Business Improvement District (BID) as part of the It’s in Nottingham Cocktail Week.
The cocktail also won the Nottingham Personality category which involved bars creating a cocktail inspired by a Nottingham personality. After carrying out research, the team at Das Kino discovered that Robin Hood’s favourite tipple was likely to be mead, a drink made from honey and water via fermentation with yeast and Hoods’ Italian Wine is a take on this. It is made with Old J spiced rum, Sauvignon Blanc, lemon juice and oregent syrup.
Connor Clarke assistant manager at Das Kino, who created the cocktail for the competition said: “An initiative like this brings together people who work in the bar sector in the city centre which is great. It was a good competition that I wasn’t expecting to win but I’m so pleased that I did.”
Gin Fashioned created by Tom Boyden at Juni on Low Pavement was crowned the winner of the Twist on a Classic category. Gin Fashioned is a twist on the classic Old Fashioned, made with Juni’s cask aged premium artisanal gin, white sugar, lime juice, angostura bitter and garnished with flame-burst lime peel.
In the Collaboration category, the winning cocktail was Cock and Coupe created by The Lace Market Hotel in collaboration with Magpie Brewery. A fusion of bourbon, pale ale and egg whites with elderflower liqueur, grapefruit juice and bitters to produce a cocktail with a beer fragranced foamy head, topped with a citra hop dust.
“Congratulations to all the winners, particularly to Connor from Das Kino for creating Hood’s Italian Wine, as well as to all the finalists,” said Polly Reade a director of Nottingham BID. “The standard of the cocktails created by all the venues was really high which made the task of shortlisting the finalists and then selecting the winners, extremely difficult. All the judges scored Hood’s Italian Wine highly and agreed that it is one of the best cocktails they have ever tasted.”
The competition saw over 45 venues taking part in the event from Nottingham BID to highlight the city’s vibrant cocktail scene.
