Shop Sustainably at Derby’s Pre-loved clothing boutique, The Amber Room
Pre-loved clothing boutique, The Amber Room opened its doors at intu Derby for the first time on Tuesday 28th January, offering an alternative way to find new outfits through a sustainable swap-and-shop system.
Sarah Garlick, a 27-year old Derby local, first opened The Amber Room in 2017 on Ashbourne Road with support from The Prince’s Trust. Wishing to counteract the nation’s fast-fashion addiction, she came up with the concept as she rifled through her closet, wondering if there was a way she could swap old outfits for a new look without buying something brand-new.
Fashion lovers can visit the store to find second-hand bargains, with high-quality clothing, shoes and accessories on offer for a fraction of the original price. The Amber Room’s eco-conscious morals extend to its upcycled interiors and plastic-free ethos, with only second-hand plastic being used in-store.
The store also offers a service where customers can bring in their unwanted clothes to be sold in-store, encouraging Derby’s shoppers to recycle their unworn items.
Due to increased demand, the store has now moved to intu Derby, for a bigger and more accessible location, which will give Sarah and her team a chance to expand their range and reach more customers.
Sarah Garlick, owner of The Amber Room, said: “I am committed to living consciously and hope The Amber Room can provide a new ethical option for fashion lovers, so we can help the environment, while always having access to new looks.
