Volunteers offered fantastic radio opportunity

Radio2Funky

2Funky Arts is looking for volunteers, aged 14-25, to help them in researching, documenting and broadcasting the history of Black music, arts, culture and society in Leicester from the last 67 years.  The project is entitled BHM Radio2Funky FM.

The team of young volunteers, will take over ‘Radio2Funky’ (online radio station) completely with this heritage subject matter, throughout Black History Month (October) 2015. As well as keeping its internet presence, Radio2Funky will temporarily become an FM radio station. It will be a platform for young people and the wider community to experience new heritage interviews, historical speakers and music of Black origin (new and old). It will also include audio from their successful documentary ‘Spectrum’, which explored the history of Black music in Leicester.

Training of volunteers will take place in September and October 2015 on Granby St and will include interview, research, presenting, media and broadcasting skills, as well as working towards an Arts Award accreditation.  In addition to seeking a large team of volunteers, 2Funky Arts will recruit a Steering Group of young people who will be involved in managing the project. Expenses will be paid.

The project is made possible by a Heritage Lottery Fund (Young Roots) grant. The project will encourage young people to engage with this heritage and increase their knowledge in an enjoyable and accessible way. It will be managed in partnership with East Midlands Oral History Archive.
