Audrey Star’s Boutique
SIXTYNINE DEGREES talks to Kerry Williams about her fabulous store, Audrey Star’s Boutique.
Who are you? Kerry Williams aka Audrey
What is your background?I managed TinFish Shoes for over 5 years – that’s what gave me the passion for retail and made me want to run my own shop. We’ve been open since last October but the website www.audreystarsboutique.com has been up and running for just over 2 years.
How would you sell Audrey Stars Boutique to me? Audrey’s is for Modern Dames and Retro Babes and anyone with a passion for the styles of the past but with all the convenience of modern day fit, fabric and sizing. We deal in nostalgia but are not interested in living in the past. It’s all about dressing fancy, not fancy dress!
Tell me about the brands that are exclusive to you. We stock a few of the well-loved UK brands such as Collectif, Hell Bunny and Banned, along with some amazing US brands, all big names in the Vintage –Repro scene. Exciting brands new in the Boutique this year are Tara Starlet, Splendette, Luxulite and Atomic Swag amongst others.
Who is your fashion icon? I would say that my modern day influences include Dita Von Teese, Imelda May and Gwen Steffani. Generally I am just inspired by the everyday gals of
the 1940’s and 50’s. Everyone made such an effort in those days.
Why choose the arcade as your base? The Royal Arcade for me feels like a home from home, after having worked at TinFish, it just felt like the right place for me personally. I love being a part of The Lanes, there are so many fantastic independent shops in the area and I’m really proud to be able contribute to that.
What’s next for your brand? Continuing to stock amazing pieces and sourcing exciting new brands both locally and those further afield and who knows, maybe one day in the future, my very own range of clothing would be a dream.
Audrey Stars Boutique is at Royal Arcade, High Street,Leicester. www.audreystarsboutique.com
