Now open from 7am weekdays, 8am on weekends, for Breakfast, Coffee & Bakery items (try a latte and the Banana Loaf with Fig Compote for the perfect start to the day or a fabulous elevenses all from £2.25) are all available in the luxurious setting of Maiyango restaurant, which creates an oasis of Arabian Nights style calm in the bustling city centre. An ideal start to the day for a special occasion, a recovery session for the Morning After or just a decadent weekend lazy breakfast, there is something for something for everyone on the menu. And what’s even better it the Brunch menu is served until 2 pm so there is no need to get up too early!

Kick off with a fresh homemade smoothie for a shot of vitamin goodness – our favourite was banana, vanilla and blossom honey (£2.95). If you are a fan of a substantial Breakfast (or in need of a hangover cure), we would recommend the Huevos Rancheros (£7.95) with jalapeno and tomato compote, two fried free range eggs, tortilla chaff’s, refried beans and sour cream (chorizo is optional) – combined with the build-your-own version of the Bloody Mary (but with oriental spiced gin) this is a guaranteed hangover cure for the most decadent night out.

A contemporary twist on a classic, try the Maiyango Benedict available with either ham or smoked salmon, a generous helping of corn bread is topped with runny poachedegg and lashings of Hollandaise sauce (£7.95).


Served until 5pm and ideally located next to Highcross Leicester for a pre- or mid-shopping lunch, Maiyango’s midday menu has its trademark ‘world cuisine’ flavour. Our favourites were the ‘Around the World Taster Plates’ (£6.95), a fab way of lining the stomach to accommodate one of the famous

Maiyango cocktails. Match the Asia or Far East Plates with a Peach, Raspberry & Vanilla Mojito (yes, it is as good as it sounds) or an Oriental Martini. The rest of the menu is structured in traditional form – Small Plates (starters or snacks), Large Plates (mains) and desserts, but refreshingly with one price regardless of choice. Small plates are £5.95, large plates are £11.95, desserts are £4.95 and sides are £2.45, so really good value for a quality lunch.

Our favourites included the Seared Tuna Club sandwich with smoked salmon, vine tomatoes, chipotle mayo, spiced root vegetables and celeriac slaw, and the Crisp Sweet Potato Bhuna Roll with lentil dhal and cherry tomato and chilli jam. For meat eaters, the Moroccan Lamb Burger is truly a taste sensation or for a lighter flavour the lemon grass and chilli infused salmon with coconut broth won’t have you dozing at your desk mid-afternoon.

To finish, chocolate lovers should definitely try the Warm Chocolate and Chilli Brownie with coconut sorbet  or perfect for the Summer, the Maiyango Special Ice Cream Sundae (we won’t spoil the surprise) will cool anyone down.
