Leicester’s hottest new record label HQ Familia launches
Located in what is fast becoming the heart of Live Music in Leicester, The Cultural Quarter, professional recording studio HQ recording launched their new in-house record label HQ Familia with a private party at The Shed that showcased some of Leicester’s best new musical talents including two artists that are now signed to the label.
Performing on the night at the recently rejuvenated venue on Yeoman Street were Asher X, Harri Georgio, Starboy SunSun, Charlie Georgio, Josh Notta, Jafo and Twisted Pennys, DJ’s Scrivs & Dubdeep with Comedian Jason Patterson taking the reigns as host and compere.
The first compilation to be released is HQ Familia Presents… HQF001 showcasing 12 of the best up and coming urban artists across the East Midlands. The 5-track compilation offers genres of UK hip hop, UK grime, future bass, and alt-R&B, all of which have been rising in the industry over recent years.
The compilation starts strong with rapper Charlie Georgio‘s ‘You’ – a future bass sound layered with rhythmic story telling lyrics. Asher X a rapper/poet follows with a brash, no nonsense delivery and up and coming rapper SunSun, pairs with Harri Georgio to present track ‘Waste My Time’. Leicester born producers Maniscooler and Dubdeep’s track offers a lighter alt R&B sound and hip-hop/rap collective BLG finish the compilation with their track ‘Which Way To Go’, a haunting and hypnotic ode to friendship and brotherhood.
HQ Familia Presents… HQF001 is the first release of many to come from HQ Familia and is available on Apple Music , iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music, Deezer and Google Play Music.
HQ Recording provide a relaxed, creative studio environment suitable for both up and coming, and established artists alike. The team consists of several producers and sound engineers specialising in a range of genres, rather than one single engineer stretching his or her knowledge trying to cover unfamiliar territories.
Yasin El Ashrafi, Studio & Label owner said, “This event was one of the highlights of my career, it was amazing to see everyone enjoying the vibe and the artists all smash it, for some of them it was their first time performing live too; not that you’d have known”.
The HQ team are also in talks with BBC Radio’s Dean Jackson to put on a regular HQ / BBC Introducing night in the city; a great addition to the local live music scene and a real development for the city’s aspiring urban artists.
