LCB DS1 celebrates the upcoming fashion community with WeArTex
Following a successful launch last week, visitors can now look forward to a whole host of fantastic events coming up during LCB DS1. Leicester’s inaugural Design Season is being held throughout September and October, with events held at LCB Depot, the city’s creative hub.
150 of the city’s most creative talents gathered at LCB Depot last week to celebrate the start of the season. Arriving to a drinks reception, guests had the opportunity to browse the LOOP Open Exhibition in the Lightbox Gallery, which remains open to the public until Saturday 29 September.
Looking ahead, this week sees We Ar Tex take centre stage at LCB Depot on Thursday evening (13 September) with their fashion and music pop-up. Born from a desire to showcase the hidden talents of Leicester’s fashion creatives, WeArTex brings these to the forefront of their events. Event curators Jordan Birtles and Ruby Eva both have long-standing links with the city’s creative community and recognised a raft of designers that they believe deserved to be seen on a more open stage.
Ruby commented, “Leicester has so much talent across a number of areas, but in terms of fashion I’m constantly amazed at discovering these amazing designers who work from home or small studios, creating the most wonderful pieces. So many of the brands people may have seen on social media, or spotted people wearing but they have no idea that they’re being designed and made by someone here in Leicester.“
Jordan, who is also a member of Leicester’s high flying band, Easy Life, added, “Fashion and music are our two biggest passions. Through We Ar Tex we’re able to bring these together and showcase some unique talent to the public. Our event during Design Season will be great fun and we hope everyone will join us to discover some new brands, enjoy some fine tunes and join us for a few drinks.”
WeArTex is just one of a packed programme of events taking place during September and October. Events during LCB DS1 celebrate a range of design businesses, with designers, architects, illustrators, digital and other creative businesses pulling together to create a diverse programme of events.
LCB Workspace Manager, James Burkmar, commented, “Design Season has been in the pipeline for us for some time and it’s wonderful to see it now fully alive. At last week’s launch event there was such an appetite for what’s to come and we hope that the public will enjoy being able to immerse themselves in all of the events on offer.“
“Amongst the events taking place as part of the season, we’ll also be launching LastFriday, a new monthly event combining arts, music, street food and cocktails. The first event takes place from 4pm – 10pm on Friday 28 September and is free to attend. Keep an eye out for more details coming soon.”
