Pioneering Dance Innovation U.Dance 2017 to Take Place in Birmingham
The very best of young dance talent from the East Midlands will be performing at five inspiring dance events across the region to win a place at the U.Dance 2017, the National Youth Dance Festival in Birmingham in July.
A total of 54 dance groups have been chosen from dozens of entries to take part in this year’s dance showcases. They will perform at one of the five sell-out U.Dance county platforms, which will have audiences thrilled and amazed.
U.Dance 2017 will enable young people to present exceptionally high quality dance and choreography in some of the most prestigious venues in the region. With its varied display of dance and choreographic styles, including ballet, contemporary, hip hop, street, south Asian, musical theatre, and often a unique fusion of different genres, these fast-paced events always prove to be a hit with audiences.
U.Dance in the East Midlands is led by international dance development organisation Dance4 who support local county partners, ArtsNK, Déda, Curve theatre and Corby Cube to ensure progression into the national U.Dance programme, led by OneDance UK. The programme gives young people the chance to perform in a professional environment and to boost their careers as dancers.
A panel of dance industry experts will select groups from each event across the region to progress to the U.Dance 2017, the national youth dance festival, this year hosted in Birmingham between 13–16 July, as well as to take part in elEMents Choreo Lab.
elEMents Choreo Lab is a regional opportunity exclusive to the East Midlands and will involve one group from each county event. It is an opportunity for youth dance companies to work with Theo Clinkard, this year’s prestigious choreographer.
This one-day exploration of choreographic skills, ideas and practices will take place at Dance4’s new international Centre for
Choreography and is supported by the Origin Young Choreography Award.
