Independent businesses across Birmingham came together to celebrate the first birthday of Sarto – one of the city’s newest and youngest start-ups.

The stylish hair salon, led by owner and founder, Aaron Williams (22), was joined in its celebrations by some of the city’s most acclaimed independents, including: Salcooks, Indian Brewery, Lucky Duck and Otto Pizza. By bringing these businesses together, the local star-studded event was not only a celebration of Sarto’s first year in business, it was an opportunity to showcase the wealth of creative talent in Birmingham.

The birthday party was held at Sarto’s ‘underground’ hair salon in the Jewellery Quarter – Birmingham’s start-up hotspot. Guests were treated to locally-sourced food and drink courtesy of the hairdresser’s two neighbours – Salcooks and Indian Brewery.

Sarto is one of many start-ups in Birmingham and at the age of 22, its owner Aaron, is an example of the city’s young and up and coming talent. After working in Birmingham as a reputable barber and hairdresser, Aaron saw ‘a gap in the market’ for combining these unique styles of hair cutting into one specialist service.

In its first year of business, Sarto has grown its client portfolio by delivering on quality and generating word of mouth. Since successfully launching in 2018, Sarto has employed two full-time hairdressers.

Commenting on the salons first year in business, Owner and Founder, Aaron Williams, said: “The fundamentals come first, and the last 12 months have been about getting the basics right. The biggest challenge for me has been building a loyal customer base and thanks to our scientific approach and unique style of cutting hair, we’ve been able to grow the business through word of mouth.

“As a young lad from Birmingham, the last 12 months have been a dream. I’m excited about the salons future and I’d like to see us build on the success we’ve enjoyed so far. Our main priority though, is to continue to deliver the very best cuts and grooming advice for our customers.”
