REVIEW: The one and only, ORIGIN-L
For almost twenty years now DJ Lisa Lashes has taken the world by storm with her skills on the decks and her infectious personality. The only Female Artist to ever break into the Top 10 of DJ magazines Top 100 DJs she has played at some of the biggest clubs and festivals in the world. Recently she has been working with the Sub:merged label on an eight track deal and in support of that, a series of exclusive, intimate and underground ‘ORIGIN-L’ parties. Recently ORIGIN-L launched with a private, VIP party in the basement of her house and our resident raver, Lilith Hunt-Sheppard, was invited to the launch.
I have known Lisa Lashes for many years and have been to watch her play on countless occasions. Recently she invited me to have an exclusive, first listen to her own newly produced Techno tracks; from the first few beats I was hooked. Dancing along in her basement, it was easy to see why the godfather of house, Carl Cox, was championing her new tracks. As soon as she told me about her new night, ORIGIN-L I knew this was a night I didn’t want to miss.
Over the years I have been to some pretty intimate gigs but, nothing as intimate as an artist’s actual basement studio and games room. The night was being live streamed on her YouTube, so as the final technical touches were made, we all enjoyed a glass of fizz, buzzing for the night ahead. As we went live JAX was first on the decks smashing out her mix of Techno tracks. Guests started to arrive and the tunes were pumping, it didn’t take long for the dance floor to start filling. It was just like our own little intimate club complete with flashing lights, a smoking area outside and a chance to get up close and personal with everyone that was playing. JAX was awesome and you can tell, she loved it too, even busting a bit of a groove herself as she controlled the decks. People were milling about chatting and dancing as more and more guests started to arrive, before long the room was full and JAX had certainly got the party started!
The whole night was interactive, live tweets flashing up on a screen which went crazy as Lisa Lashes took over the decks for her set. I’ve always loved how effortless she makes DJing look and is very often seen with wine in hand and dancing behind the decks as she mixes. Tonight was no exception as she was totally in her element, the place was pumping with everyone dancing and the vibe was amazing. This was the first time that Lisa had publically played her news tracks with four of them being played during her set.
There were three artist on the line up for the night and as Lisa’s set started to come to its end, waiting to take over were Medhat and Dekkstrum. The British techno duo that’s made up from two Dj/producers and Sub:merged owners Mohamed Mehat and Darren Brennan. They mixed flawlessly back to back dropping in some of the hottest tunes as the party kept pumping. To be honest everyone was loving it and certainly didn’t want the night to end. As they played for the last hour and the live stream was nearing the finishing time, the party definitely wasn’t going to stop there! Not for us anyway…..
One thing’s for sure ORIGIN-L definitely ticked all our boxes and luckily the event won’t end there. With nights already booked in clubs all around the UK, each one guaranteeing an incredible line up of big names and upcoming artists. Lisa Lashes will, not only, be putting her new techno sound but also proving she is the, one and only ORIGIN-L
If you would like to be a part of the next ORIGIN-L party, you won’t have to wait long. Friday 6th May the night will be kicking off with its first, fully public night at Rainbow Venues in Birmingham. For more information and to buy your, pay what you want tickets, click the link below.
