Local legends reveal Derby’s ‘ram-azing’ new statue
Derby’s new ram statue has been unveiled by some of the city’s greatest local legends.
Much-loved sporting icons Roger Davies and Michael Johnson, Derby County Football Club ambassadors, revealed the ram at a ceremony last week on Friday 8 March.
Sandy Ryan, Derby’s Commonwealth Games Gold medal-winning boxer, also joined the proceedings to welcome the city’s stunning newest addition with the community.
Designed by Urban Planters and crafted by talented sculptor, Tim Roper of Steel Art, the impressive statue stands proud at over two metres tall, at the Burrows Walk entrance to the centre.
intu Derby hopes the work of art will further enhance Derby’s vibrant city centre, harnessing the symbol of the city in a celebration of its rich heritage and culture.
Adam Tamsett, general manager at intu Derby, said: “We were delighted to unveil our impressive ram statue, and were honoured to be joined by some very special guests to help us mark the occasion.
“We know how important a symbol the ram is to the Derby community, representing the spirit and strength of the city, and we hope that the new addition will bring joy to the people of Derby every day,” he added.
