LIVE ON AIR! Leicester’s Black Music & Arts Community Radio Station, Radio2Funky, Launches as FM Station
Leicester-based black music and arts radio station, Radio2Funky is joining Leicester’s thriving community radio sector as it launches as an FM station on 95.0 FM.
Volunteer-led, it provides an ideal platform for artist development, as well as training for media-focused careers. The station started out as an internet radio station, run by 2Funky Arts, with local DJs streaming shows from their ‘bedroom’ studios.

The station is aimed at people between 16-35 years, and is a dynamic platform rooted in arts, culture and city life. Based on Granby Street in Leicester city centre, Radio2Funky will cover a 5km radius on FM, and can also be listened to from anywhere online.
Radio2Funky’s programming reflects its local audience and provides opportunities for people living in Leicester, to be included in the running of the station and its content. Training opportunities are also available, such as their new Making Waves project for jobseekers, which helps you to acquire skills and career experience through volunteering.
Radio2Funky’s Director Vijay Mistry says:
“We are thrilled to have been awarded a full-time FM Community Radio license from Ofcom, and are very excited about the opportunities this will bring for Leicester’s diverse communities.”
As a vibrant, multi-genre music station, Radio2Funky will promote and highlight many different forms of black music, such as: Hip-Hop, RnB, Drum & Bass, Grime, Soul, Afrobeats, and Reggae. The station champions home-grown talent and strives to highlight emerging talent.
