Dubai is a city that needs to be seen to be believed. Dubai enjoys
a sub-tropical climate, split into two seasons. Winter months are slightly cooler and the best time to visit for some winter sun. It’s not all business and skyscrapers here.

Learn Dubai’s rich history in its top class museums, stroll the narrow streets of charming Old Dubai, and take in the sights and smells at one of the city’s many markets.

Mesmerising Marsa Alam

One of Egypt’s popular Red Sea destinations, offering miles of white
sands, shimmering beaches and colour reefs. A perfect destination for divers, Marsa Alam has some of Egypt’s most unspoilt reefs with Elphinstone Reef being the highlight. Frequented with reef sharks, giant turtles and spinner dolphins, there’s a good chance you’ll see some of the marine wildlife. Whilst you’re away, don’t pass up the chance to sample what is widely considered to be the country’s national dish: Kushari.
Made from pasta, chickpeas, lentils and rice in a tasty tomato sauce, we recommend washing it down with an ice cold Sakara beer whilst overlooking the beach.

Fly direct to Marsa Alam with Thomas Cook Airlines, direct from Birmingham Airport.

Winter snow

If you’re keen to embrace the cold, set your sights on the slopes and go for one of four ski getaways with from Birmingham Airport. Choose from Geneva, Grenoble, Salzburg and Turin. A range of Europe’s most well known pistes are calling your name, plus you’ll find all sorts of wintry activities off the slopes, and a great selection of après-ski for all ages.

Geneva, the gateway to the Swiss and French Alps, boasts famous resorts including Verbier, Zermatt and Tignes. With runs suitable for all levels of skiers, there’s something for everyone. If you’re visiting at the end of January, you’ll be in for a treat as the International Hot Air Balloon Festival takes place in Chateau-d’Oex every year, putting on a fabulous show for adults and children alike!

If you’re more of an experienced skier, Grenoble might be the destination for you. Take on the black runs of the Nyon area in Morzine, the terrific Stash terrain park at Avoriaz or the challenge of the Vallee Blanche off-piste in Chamonix.

Winter sun

If you’d rather a winter warmer, ditch your woollens and grab your hat! It’s all sun and games in favourites like Faro, Majorca and Tenerife. You might even fancy somewhere where beaches and cities come together, such as Malaga, Alicante, or even Malta.

Faro Airport is perfectly located to explore Portugal’s southern coastline, the Algarve. We recommend visiting Alvor, one of the most scenic parts of the country, offering boardwalks, sand dunes and salt pans – ideal
if you’re a keen explorer. For a warm winter city break, Faro, the country’s capital offers cobbled streets, whitewashed churches and a beautiful marina full of restaurants and bars.

Majorca is just a short hop from Birmingham and offers golden beaches as well stunning architecture in the capital, Palma. Check out historical monuments including the Gothic cathedral, Santa Maria, the now royal residence of Almudaina and Bellver Castle, the distinctive medieval fortress with panoramic views.

For a more laid-back, beach holiday, Palma Nova is a firm favourite, as well as the family friendly bay of Pollensa.

Tenerife may have a slightly longer flight time than some of the European destinations on offer, but if you’re looking for an upmarket experience, Costa Adeje on Tenerife’s southern coast is worth considering. It’s become
famous for offering fusion twists on Canarian cuisine so is the ideal place to sample a modern take on authentic dishes.
