Life’s a Drag! RuPaul’s DragCon makes its way to the UK
Now that RuPaul’s Drag Race UK has been renewed for season two and has firmly established itself as a powerhouse this side of the pond, it’s time to sashay down to the Olympia, Kensington for the inaugural RuPaul’s DragCon UK on 18th and 19th January 2020.
Fans will have the opportunity to see RuPaul Charles, Michelle Visage, the Brit Crew and all the Queens they know and love, reunited for a weekend full of all things drag culture.
The entire cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will be in attendance across the weekend – including the newly crowned winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK The Vivienne and runners-up Divina De Campo and Baga Chipz. US stars such as Bob the Drag Queen, Bianca Del Rio, Monet X Change, Trinity “The Tuck” will be death dropping to center stage and celebrity fans of the show such as Vick Hope, Stephen Bailey and Danny Franzese will also be in attendance.
To mark the official opening of DragCon UK on Saturday 18th January, RuPaul and his Queens will cut the ribbon ahead of one of the must-see events of the convention, The Queen’s Walk, which sees the queens make their entrance and strut down the famous pink carpet.
Alongside the impressive list of talent attending DragCon UK, the two-day convention promises to bring queer pop culture, activism and art to the forefront with pop-ups from some of the world’s leading LGBTQ+ fashion and makeup brands.
If you are interested in learning more about drag culture, there are a range of panel discussions on offer with your favourite queens and celebs. Bob The Drag Queen and Monet X Change will be hosting a live version of their popular podcast Sibling Rivalry on Saturday 18th at 11.30am, The Vivienne and Baga Chipz will be discussing the making of their web-series that included their Snatch Game-winning impersonations of Donald Trump and Margaret Thatcher in WOW Presents Plus: Morning T&T on Saturday 18th at 1pm and there will be an exclusive RuPaul’s Drag Race Live in Las Vegas panel on Sunday 19th at 10am featuring cast members Asia O’Hara, Derrick Barry and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo.
POP Beauty, who also sponsored the infamous DragCon NYC, will present a panel focusing on self-expression through makeup, hosted by creative director, Sara Strand, and featuring super Queens Laila McQueen and Mariah Paris Balenciaga on Saturday at 1.30pm, sponsors Netflix will host a panel with RuPaul, Jujubee and Trinity ‘The Tuck’ as they discuss the brand new Netflix show AJ and the Queen on Saturday at 4pm and sponsors MUA Cosmetics and Blu Hydrangea will be making over TOWIE’s Harry Derbidge on Saturday at 2pm.
Whilst all this is going on, be sure to check out the main stage – sponsored by Bud Light – and watch show-stopping performances from special guests or unleash your inner Queen and participate in one of the Lip Sync Battle contests – whether in a group or individually. DragCon UK is an enjoyable weekend out for the entire family, so bring your kids to the
Kids Zone where they can take part in fun activities including story hour, colouring and crafts. Or else, allow for their inner queen to be unleashed and participate in the Kids Fashion Show, which will be taking place on Sunday 19th at 2.45pm.
If all of this wasn’t enough, RuPaul himself will be DJ’ing live on the Main Stage for two hours on both Saturday and Sunday. Make sure you don’t miss your only chance to party live with Mama Ru!
